Media Futures

Media Futures: sensational speakers and expert workshops to help students get the top jobs.

Every UG and PG student in the School of Media and Communication has the chance to take part in an exciting addition to their timetable, with an hour every week devoted to their personal and professional development.

Media Futures is usually held every Tuesday 4-5pm, with a wide range of talks and workshops planned to help develop students’ confidence and career prospects.

Throughout the year, photographers, documentary film makers, journalists, and experts from the creative industries will be giving talks throughout the semester, giving advice on going freelance, creating a successful business, and giving careers and financial tips.

Recent guests at Media Futures include screenwriter Peter Bowker (The A Word, Marvellous, Eric & Ernie), war correspondent and journalist Matthew Green and BBC News’ Martine Croxall.

Media Futures continues this semester, including our highly successful Careers Day being staged on Wednesday February 1 2017. As well as listening to Leeds alumni giving tips on how to get into the media and creative industries, students can get advice on marketing their CV from top media professionals. You can see previous interviews with former students who attended previous careers days  http://youtu.be/dBh6xeq7Fc8

Opportunities for students including jobs, volunteering and internships are also compiled by the Media Futures team and posted regularly on Facebook.
