The Feminist Reading Group is based in the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds.

This reading group began in Autumn 2013 in recognition of the substantive research and teaching undertaken within the school, and to create a space in which feminist issues could be engaged with across disciplines and subjects. It meets once or twice a semester and is open to staff and students. The group includes attendees from the School, other schools in the University of Leeds and also from other nearby Universities, such as Leeds Beckett University and University of York.

We are reading classic and contemporary feminist scholarship in the (broadly defined) fields of media, communication and culture. So far we have looked at longstanding feminist debates around issues of embodiment and representation, digital media and technology, politics of action and affect, and have had speakers discussing feminist activism, feminist political figures and women’s genres.

The reading group is convened by Lee Edwards, Kate OakleyHelen Thornham and Nancy Thumim. All welcome.
