John has a background in graphic design, motion graphics, film production and is an independent film maker with awards for editing. He has international teaching experience and has freelanced on numerous productions and design projects in the UK and abroad. John has interests in the history of film, particularly Louis Le Prince.  Le Prince shot the very first moving images in Roundhay & Oakwood, which is where John helps run the local Oakwood Community Cinema.  John’s other interests are special effects and digital editing.


John primarily teaches at Level 2 on the Film, Photography and Media course.

His modules include COMM 2890 Short Film Production; COMM 2870 Motion Graphics & COMM 2800 Creative Practice. He is also a project supervisor for the final year COMM3801 Moving Image Project and advises on the COMM3880 Cinema projects.  He also supervises on the Digital Media course COMM 3710 & COMM 3720 Projects I&II and the MA New Media Independent project.


John is admissions tutor for BA(Hons) Film,Photography & Media

He is also the Cinema Manager.

External Appointments

John was an External Examiner for Creative Media Technology at Leeds Beckett University (2010-14).

Professional Practice

Outside of the University John is a Director of The Film Bridge Ltd, a company that focuses on educationally related projects and production.
