Sarah Weston appointed Lecturer of Media and Communication
August 16th, 2018
Sarah Weston joins the School of Media and Communication as a Lecturer of Media and Communication in September 2018. She recently passed her PhD viva at the School of Media and Communication, supervised by Professor Stephen Coleman and Professor Jane Plastow.
Her research focuses on the relationship between voice and political performance, specifically working in youth contexts. Her doctoral research was practice-led, running performance workshops with young women exploring the connection between practices of voice training and the extent to which her participants experienced ‘political voice’.
During her PhD study Sarah convened the Political Performance reading group in the department. Recently she was appointed as Co-Editor of the Theatre Dance and Performer Training Blog where she will develop the research blog’s community element. Sarah is also a theatre practitioner who works in community contexts to create activist performance.
In this position, Sarah hopes to continue researching how the concept of political performance can be used to explore practices and theories of communication, particularly looking at voice training in relation to gender and social class in different contexts.
