Dr Paul Taylor will join philosopher Alain De Botton, poets Sharon Olds and Kathleen Jaime, and presenter Ian MacMillan in this week’s edition of BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, broadcast at 10pm on Friday.

The Verb features new writers and new writing, from poetry, novels, short stories, plays, screen-plays and memoirs, to essays, history, song, story-telling.  Each week presenter Ian MacMillan and his guests explore different worlds of language, dialects, rarities and curiosities and how spoken and written language interact. In Friday’s programme, Paul Taylor discusses the language of the male mid-life crisis, its place in our culture, and whether contemporary writers have a responsibility to explore kindness, virtue and sacrifice in mid-life as well as relationship breakdown.
