Jairo Lugo-Ocando and Federico Subervi-Velez keynote speakers at Spring School Perugia

Associate Professor, Jairo Lugo-Ocando, and Visiting Leverhulme Professor, Federico Subervi-Velez, have been invited deliver keynotes at the University of Perugia under the theme ‘Media Systems: Comparative and Transnational Perspectives’ with focus on South America.
Jairo Lugo-Ocando’s talk will focus on the way foreign aid has shaped journalistic cultures and practices in Latin America. Federico Subervi-Velez will speak about the development of the media system in Puerto Rico in the context of colonial and post-colonial relations with the USA.
The International Spring School (9-12 April 2018) is organized by the Institute of Media and Journalism of the USI Università della Svizzera italiana (Switzerland), in collaboration with the Department of Political Sciences at Università di Perugia (Italy) and the Department of Communication at University of California San Diego (USA).
The Spring School takes place just before the opening of the International Journalism Festival and is open to Masters and PhD students and junior researchers in communication, media studies, journalism, political communication and sociology of communication. It is centred on the notion of a ‘media system’ and presents, discusses and compares global media systems and the methodological and interpretive challenges that are involved.
