Ioanna Ferra appointed Lecturer of Media and Communication

Dr Ioanna Ferra joins the School of Media and Communication as a Lecturer of Media and Communication in September 2018. She completed her PhD in Media and Communication at the University of Leicester.

Her research interests lie in the field of Digital Media and its place in contemporary society, and she has a keen interest in Digital Research Methods.

She has conducted research on Digital Media and Cyber Conflict, Public Sphere and Polarization, as well as on contemporary social movements, resistance networks and society. She’s used digital research methods to examine the influence of digital media on the contentious politics in Greece (2008-2015) and the political economic sphere’s impact on the formation of the digital mediascape.

Ioanna has worked on a number of collaborative research projects including the ’2015-2017: 25 cases of Terror Attacks on Twitter’, ‘Mapping the refugees’ crisis online: the case of Idomeni on Instagram’ and ‘Social media and the environmental movement in Greece: the case of #Skouries’.

She has been published in international academic journals and edited volumes and is currently working on her first book Digital Media and the Greek Crisis (Emerald).
